Monsters Among Gods - Monsters Among Gods

Monsters Among Gods (EP).jpg

This is the first official release of Monsters Among Gods and I found them while I was strolling through YouTube recommendations. Hailing from the great state of Washington, the 5-piece American deathcore newcomer is ambitious and are ready to show its musicianship to the world.

So, the deathcore sound has been changed several times now since the start of the genre back in the early 2000’s. From straight up anger so melodic deathcore, Monsters Among Gods have gotten their inspiration from every single era of deathcore.

So, let’s take a first look at the band themselves. A very professional logo that screams the early days of deathcore (The Last Ten Seconds Of Life’ish). By looking through their Facebook, I found out that Monsters Among Gods were opening for the mighty gods of Traitors and Black Tongue. They do have the beginner-band-looks that every big band had when they’ve started out but I’m sure that will change very quickly overtime.

By listening to the EP, I noticed that it is a very good ‘first-release’-release. You hear that they put all their effort in creating their own budget masterpiece. They do need to find their sound which is absolutely normal in the beginning stages of the bands existence.

By far the best instrument on this EP, are the drums. They’ve been produced and mixed insanely good. It has a thicc and massive sound which makes the whole sound of the band a lot fatter and better. However, the vocals aren’t done like they should’ve been mixed. The vocals really deserve a better treatment because the other instruments deserve a filthy growl over it. And it is absolutely possible because the vocals of Mr. McCulloch are up to the level where they deserve a better mix than what I hear now. I’m sure that will happen on the next release.

So, I’ve been Facebook stalking Monsters Among Gods and now I hear the re-recorded version of the opening track ‘Obsidian Lies’ and it sounds absolutely crushing. Way better than the EP mix. I hope this will be the mix of the new release. It sounds more intense and that is what Monsters Among Gods deserve with their next release.
