Wyatt Earp - EP

Wyatt Earp - EP.jpg

Founded in 2012, Wyatt Earp comes from Sittard-Geleen (The Netherlands) and is a mix of southern metal with hardcore punk. This unique style of metal is new for me but certainly one of the best surprises that I’ve had in a long while.

Wyatt Earp brought out their 3-track EP all by themselves. You can find their EP on the Facebook and a direct link to their Bandcamp where it is for free.

The first song is called Gunfight At The OK Corral. It’s about a gunfight (obviously) in the small town of Tombstone, Arizona in 1881. The gunfight was between 5 cowboys and 3 law enforcers, one is called Wyatt Earp (the source of the band name). The gunfight is estimated around 30 seconds and luckily this song isn’t that short. Its 4 ½ minutes long and with an some kind of old western song at the start. If you said this was a song from Hatebreed I would believe it. The quality of this song is mind-blowing because usually the first EP of a band is known to be a search to their sound and its clear that Wyatt Earp has found theirs.

Onwards to the second song which is my favourite. Gettin' Pretty Good, At Barely Gettin' By is a song that starts with a guitar/drum piece that reminds me of the industrial metal band Coal Chamber with their song Loco but then faster (and awesomer). This unique style comes back around the halfway mark in the song which is their one way of breakdowns it seems.

Of the last song Gold Dust, Wyatt Earp has recently made a video clip. In the video clip you see the guys in the studio and playing live. In the clip of Gold Dust, they show that they are very energetic and that the show isn’t a boring one to go to. However, Gold Dust is in my opinion the most metalcore song that they produce. It has a western-style intro to the song when it goes into the newer metalcore with a lot of breakdowns. It’s a shame because I really wanted that they kept the unique style that I heard in the previous songs.

I hope that they keep the unique style and I give this album an 9.0/10.
