Dystopia - Haat

The first EP of the Dutch Black/death band Dystopia is called Haat (Hate). It is their fourth release. This 2-track EP has been released in 2013 by themselves. They are currently unsigned.
After 2 demo releases, Dystopia decided that it was time to release a full length album. That album was released in 2012 and is called 'Decay'.
But now it is time to listen to the first song of the EP. 'Peace Through Power' immediately begins with pure black metal blast beats. With a small piece of Dutch singing throughout the song this will be noticed by non-Dutch people. The song features various genres like (ofcourse) Black metal, Death Metal, Folk metal and Thrash metal. It isnt that one genre is leading throughout the song. Dystopia let the fans hear what they want to hear and that's a mix of many genres mixed perfectly together.
The song is a catchy one because it features some things I like about black metal which are the elements that the band Immortal uses. Catchy, raw and what Dystopia does different than Immortal is that they make the solo's fit in the songs. Great song!
The last song 'Bound To Annihilate' is another grooving metal song. It isn't black metal but it leans more to the death metal kind of music. Which is good but not what I want to hear from Dystopia. The combination is good but they seem more in their element with black metal than death metal. With a small melodic raw black metal guitar riff in the middle of the song, Dystopia really surprises me there because after the melodic piece they turn into a blast beat black metal band.
The previous song really had me but 'Bound To Annihilate' doesn't grab me by my neck and tries to make me headbang. It is a good song but not as good as 'Peace Through Power'.
This short but convincing EP really makes me want to hear more from Dystopia. Maybe the older releases have more black than death in the songs because I think that Dystopia is better at the black metal than the Death metal. The EP 'Haat' deserves a 7,5. With some surprises that I didn't expect they really had me frown and doubt about the EP, but there is amazingly much potential in the musicians of Dystopia!
